Welcome to ICAMeO-2019

The department of Mechanical Engineering in Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology is organising an International Conference on Applied Mechanics and Optimisation, ICAMeO-2019 at Mar Baselios Campus, Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala during JUNE 13-15, 2019.  The conference comprises of keynote lectures, regular sessions of contributed papers and poster presentations.

About the Conference

Applied Mechanics is a discipline rich in history which encompasses such varied areas like solid mechanics, dynamics, fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. Its illustrious history, spread over the last 400 years, boasts the active involvement of many of the greatest scientific minds. In the last 50 years, research in applied mechanics has given rise to new startling discoveries in areas like nonlinear dynamics, chaotic systems, fluid turbulence and nano mechanics. These discoveries have opened up the possibility for utilizing interesting properties and phenomena in these areas for better and more efficient design of mechanical systems and devices. Such an approach also leads to the need for design optimization of these systems.  This conference aims to provide an opportunity for all those working in theoretical, experimental and computational aspects of applied mechanics to showcase their new results. It also aims to highlight works which attempts to apply these new results for the optimal design of mechanical systems.

This conference focuses on experimental, computational and optimisation problems in

  • AERODYNAMICS
  • APPLIED THERMODYNAMICS IN MATERIALS AND FLUID FLOW
  • ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS
  • ENGINEERING MATERIALS- NANOSCALE, COMPOSITES
  • FLUID DYNAMICS AND FLUID STRUCTURE INTERACTIONS

Industry -Academia Conclave

On the inaugural day of ICAMeO-2019, national and international experts from industry and academics will be invited to create amazing platforms for like minded professionals to explore themselves while interacting with their colleagues in real-time. The conclave intend to have interactive sessions by each industry expert with academicians. The sessions will be on the current ventures/products in the industry, which can likely be collaborated with the external world.

ASME Workshop

In ICAMeO-2019, the ASME student chapter in Department of Mechanical Engineering, MBCET will be organising a national level “Automobile Design Workshop” for B.Tech and M.Tech students. The workshop will cover all the aspects of automobile manufacturing from design to fabrication.

About Us

MBCET

Built on a strong tradition of imparting knowledge, the Malankara Catholic Church has been carrying forward the mission of educating the younger generations for the past eight decades. The Malankara Catholic Church’s long cherished dream of starting an Engineering College was realised in 2002 with the establishment of the MAR BASELIOS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (MBCET). Situated amidst 18 educational institutions in the Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar, just 5 kms from the heart of the city of Thiruvananthapuram and only 10kms from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, MBCET stands tall as a symbol of the quest for professional and technological studies set against the backdrop of the serene and panoramic Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. The college is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. MBCET is the first and only college in Kerala to have NBA accreditation for all B.Tech programmes and NAAC accreditation with ‘A’ grade (CGPA 3.13).

Department

Mechanical Engineering Department

MBCET started the undergraduate course in Mechanical Engineering in the year 2005 with an intake of 60 students per year. Now the department has intake strength of 126 students per year for undergraduate course. Postgraduate course with specialization in Machine Design was started in the year 2012 with an intake of 18 students per year. The department which is more than a decade old has its unmatchable progression in bagging various funded projects from VSSC (ISRO), CEDS, KSCSTE etc. The department has always been in the top 5 ranks of Kerala University examinations. The department has an excellent infrastructure having well-equipped research laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities. As an innovative improvement, the Cast Iron Recycling unit is initiated to cater the demand of iron blocks in nearby institutions and as a social responsibility. The department has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

Travel

Places Nearby

Geographically, Kerala is a heady amalgam of Nature’s very best. The divine high ranges of the Western Ghats on the east, the Arabian Sea on the west, Emerald paddy fields, Virgin forests, Limpid backwaters, and beaches by the dozen, which in the days of yore, lured adventurous hearts from all over the globe. Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum (Anglicized name), is the capital of the Indian state of Kerala. Referred to by Mahatma Gandhi as the “Evergreen city of India”,  it ranks first in the number of international tourists in Kerala also. For tourist, Trivandrum offers Nature on a platter. Major attractions in Trivandrum and its neighborhood are not limited to sandy beaches of Kovalam, blue Lagoons at Veli, hill stations at Ponmudi and Munnar, backwaters of Kollam and Alappuzha, greenland plantations in the highranges. Sree Padmanaphaswamy temple, Napier Museum, Royal palaces etc will give us a glimpse of Indian and British architectural marvels. Apart from these there are a wide range of tourist attractions in and around Trivandrum.
